Please join us for this in-person, hands-on workshop in Portland Maine to learn therapeutic gua sha. Taught by Carly Herrero, LAc, LMT.
The workshop is open to acupuncturists, massage therapists, chiropractors, physical therapists, osteopaths, or anyone with a license to provide bodywork.
Gua Sha is a form of medical scraping to alleviate chronic and acute pain.
Integrating gua sha into your massage or bodywork practice will bring noticeable clinical results. Clients often experience immediate pain relief, resolution of stubborn tension, increased range of motion, and release of myofascial trigger points.
In this hands-on workshop we will cover the wide applications of gua sha and specific treatment strategies for common conditions.
You will:
- Learn about the history and evolution of gua sha, including eastern and western perspectives on scraping therapies.
- Gain practical skills to use with immediate results in your clinic.
- Be able to discern indications, contraindications, and cautions for gua sha treatment.
- Understand gua sha dosage and how to apply for different patient presentations.
- Receive personal and hands-on coaching to master the gua sha techniques throughout the body for many common pain conditions.

Equipment
You will need to bring:
- A gua tool***
- Gliding medium -massage lotion or similar.
- A hand towel.
- Linens for the massage table
- A notebook to take notes if you want, the class will not be recorded.
- Please wear or bring shorts and a tank top or sports bra for access to the body for the practice part of the workshop.
- Participation in practice with others in the workshop is required.
- ***Gua Sha Tools You will need to bring a gua sha tool of your choice to the workshop. Tools are widely available online, and here is a general guide to gua sha tools. Professional-grade copper gua sha tools will be available for purchase at the workshop for $122. Please email me if you would like to reserve one of these tools.
Instructor
Carly Herrero is a licensed acupuncturist and licensed massage therapist. She is in private practice in Yarmouth, Maine and teaches continuing education on therapeutic gua sha, cupping, Eastern medicine and bodywork, and home health acupuncture.
